Getting Started
TimeDetail gives you six ways to log billable time. Every entry starts as a draft — review it, edit if needed, then finalize to include it in your records.
Quick Start
- Sign up at timedetail.com and choose your practice type (attorney, accountant, or consultant).
- Add your clients and categories from the Settings page.
- Log time using any of the six input channels below.
- Review drafts on the Entries page and finalize when ready.
- Export or sync finalized entries to CSV or connected integrations like Clio.
Input Channels
- Type Time — Enter date, client, category, duration, and description manually.
- Describe Time — Write a natural-language description and let AI parse it into a structured entry.
- Dictate Time — Use your device's microphone to speak your time entry, then let AI structure it.
- Paste Time — Paste notes, calendar entries, or other text and let AI extract time entries from it.
- Email Time — Send an email to your private logging address to create entries from anywhere.
- Text (SMS) Time — Text your time entries to our phone number (requires phone verification and SMS consent).

Account & Billing
What's included in the Free plan?
The Free plan includes up to 25 time entries per month with full access to all six input channels and AI parsing.
What does the Pro plan include?
Pro removes the monthly entry limit and includes access to integrations like Clio. Pro is billed monthly or annually through Stripe.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings > Billing and click “Manage Subscription” to access the Stripe billing portal, where you can cancel or update your plan.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export finalized time entries as a CSV file from the Entries page at any time.
Time Entries
What is the draft-first workflow?
Every time entry starts as a draft, no matter how you create it. Drafts are your workspace — review, edit, and adjust before finalizing. Only finalized entries appear in reports, exports, and integration syncs. This ensures you always have full control over your billable records.
Can the AI make mistakes?
Yes. AI parsing is designed to help, not replace your judgment. It may misidentify clients, miscalculate durations, or misinterpret descriptions. Always review draft entries before finalizing.
Why can't I finalize an entry?
To finalize, an entry must have a client assigned and a duration greater than zero. Check that both fields are filled in.
What's the maximum entries per SMS?
Each text message can produce up to 3 draft entries.
SMS Text Messaging (Text Time)
How do I set up Text Time?
Go to Settings > Account and scroll to the “Text Time” section. Check the SMS consent checkbox, enter your phone number, and verify it with a one-time code. See our SMS Consent page for full details.
What messages will I receive?
TimeDetail sends only transactional messages: phone verification codes and time entry confirmations. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.
How do I stop receiving text messages?
Reply STOP to any message from TimeDetail, or remove your phone number from your account settings. See our SMS Consent page for details.
How do I get help with SMS?
Reply HELP to any message from TimeDetail, or email support@timedetail.com.
Will I be charged for text messages?
Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply. TimeDetail does not charge separately for SMS.
Is my phone number shared with anyone?
No. Your phone number and SMS opt-in data are not shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Integrations
How do I connect to Clio?
Go to Settings > Integrations and click “Connect to Clio.” You'll be redirected to Clio to authorize TimeDetail. Once connected, you can sync finalized entries to Clio as Activities.
What data is sent to Clio?
When you sync an entry, TimeDetail sends the date, duration, description, billing rate, and billable status to Clio. If you've configured client and matter mappings, the entry is associated with the corresponding Clio contact and matter.
Is the Clio sync automatic?
No. You must manually sync entries — either one at a time (“Send to Clio”) or in bulk (“Sync all to Clio”) from the Entries page. This gives you control over exactly what gets sent.
How do I disconnect from Clio?
Go to Settings > Integrations and click “Disconnect.” This revokes TimeDetail's access to your Clio account and deletes stored tokens. You can also revoke access directly from within Clio.
Email Time
Where do I find my email logging address?
Go to Settings > Email to see your unique private logging address. Send emails to this address to create draft time entries.
Is my email logging address private?
Yes. Your logging address is unique to your account and should not be shared. Anyone who has this address can submit draft entries to your account.
Privacy & Security
Does TimeDetail store my data securely?
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest. OAuth tokens for integrations are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Does AI training use my data?
No. Your time entry data is not used to train AI models. Text is sent to OpenAI's API for parsing only, and OpenAI's API data usage policy does not use API inputs for model training.
Can I delete my account and all data?
Yes. Contact support@timedetail.com to request full account deletion. We will delete your data within 30 days.
