TimeDetail · How It Works
Log time by SMS (Text Time)
Text Time is the fastest way to log time between meetings or on the go. Once set up, you can send a structured text from your phone and TimeDetail will create a clean time entry.
Step 1
Add up to 2 designated numbers
In My Account → Text Time, add up to two phone numbers you will send texts from. You’ll confirm ownership with a one-time code.
Step 2
Text your entry to TimeDetail
Once verified, send texts from those numbers to our TimeDetail number: 312-626-5535.
Step 3
TimeDetail creates the entry
TimeDetail converts your text into a time entry with the correct client, minutes, and description. We can optionally enhance and professionalize the description over time.

Messages must be sent from one of your verified designated phone numbers (up to 2).
Required SMS format (MVP)
For SMS logging, use this structured format:
Client Name - 45m - Description
Example: Acme Corp - 30m - Weekly finance check-in call
Realistic examples:
Campbell Corporation - 45m - Built 12-week cash flow forecast Campbell Corporation - 30m - Weekly finance check-in call Internal - 20m - Inbox cleanup and scheduling
Tip: Keep client names consistent. Your description can be rough notes — TimeDetail can clean it up later.
Note on categories & tenths-of-an-hour
For the current SMS MVP, we recommend using minutes (e.g., 45m) and keeping the message structured. Categories and alternative formats may be supported later, but using the structured format improves reliability.
Clients & categories still help your overall workflow
Adding your clients and categories in My Account → Clients & Categories helps TimeDetail map your entries more accurately across the app and improves reporting.
Daily reminders (email or SMS)
You can set reminders once or twice per day. When a reminder arrives, you can log time right away.
SMS consent & policies
Text Time is a transactional feature. Users must explicitly consent in-app before receiving verification codes or confirmations. You can review our policies here:
